I have a kitchen painted a deep red, light maple cabinets, light wood ground that counters color?

Your kitchen sounds beautiful. An element that you do not mention your devices. When I help my clients design Kitchen pull a look together, I always factor in the color device, and cabinets and countertops. The painting is less a factor, because is inexpensive to change, rather than replacing one of the other points mentioned here. Other considerations include the amount of light your kitchen receives. A large bright space can handle more contrast and darker peaks better than a small, dark as possible. Some thoughts for you ... If your appliances are paneled to match your cabinets, black or Stainless Steel: I recommend quartz or black granite for a spectacular look. If your appliances are white or bisque (beige): I recommend a crystal white Corian or granite with patches of tan. Good luck!
